Canadian Indoor Singles championships
Pacific Indoor Bowls Club

The Pacific Indoor Bowls Club in Vancouver, BC will once again host the Canadian Indoor Singles Championships. Competition begins earlier this year from 5 – 7, 2010.
Changes to Canadian Indoor Singles Championship
After consultation with provincial representatives at the 2010 Board of Directors meeting in February, and a detailed discussion of proposals with representatives of Bowls BC and the Pacific Indoor Bowls Club in Vancouver in May of this year, the Executive of Bowls Canada Boulingrin (BCB) have approved the following changes to take effect immediately for the annual event which qualifies a man and woman to represent Canada at the World Cup:
1. Every Province is asked to schedule, promote and conduct a qualifying event each year.
2. The qualifier for the World Cup will be identified and promoted as the “Canadian Indoor Championships.”
3. A field of 12 men and 12 women will compete for their respective championship. The field for each Championship will be filled as follows:
(a) Ontario will be guaranteed two places,
(b) Every other Province will be guaranteed 1 place
(c) The previous year’s Champion will be guaranteed 1 place, and if he/she declines to take their place, it will be filled by the host Province,
(d) Provinces will notify the BCB office no later than 30 days in advance of the Championships of whether they will be sending a representative, provincial positions that are left vacant will be filled from those Provinces that have held qualifying events, proceeding from west to east (eg, BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan….)
4. The draw for the tournament will be a full round-robin, using the order approved at the Board of Directors meeting. The two highest finishers shall play for gold/silver medal and the third and fourth place finishers shall play for a bronze medal. The standard procedure for breaking a tie in the standings, as per other Canadian Championships, will apply.
5. The Championships shall be held on or about the end of October each year and shall be scheduled over a 5 day period.
6. BCB will make an amount available for use as a travel subsidy, as budget permits, which will be distributed to the participating Provinces in a manner that is reflective of their particular costs, as will be determined by the Treasurer.
7. Entry fees of $50 per participant will continue to apply and all monies collected shall be disbursed to the man and woman winning their respective Championship, provided they do attend the next World Cup event.
All of the above measures will apply for a 3 year trial and the state of the indoor championships will be assessed further by BCB in 2013.
The Canadian Indoor Singles championships will be used as a selection for the World Cup (World Bowls Indoor Championship). The male and female winner of the event will earn the right to represent Canada in Warilla, Australia from April 12 to April 20, 2010. Please note: this is a self-funded event.
