The 2017 Outdoor Singles Championships are off to a windy start

Winnipeg, MB | September 6, 2017

Play has commenced in windy conditions at Norwood and Dakota Lawn Bowling Clubs in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Everett Zwiers (ON) is currently sitting at the top of Pool A with a 2-0 finish yesterday. He won both his games, the first against local bowler Rob Law (MB) 9-8 and 8-4, and the second against Michael Leong (BC) 10-6 and 9-4.

In Pool B, there is a three-way tie for first place, with the top three players having a 2-0 record in round robin play. Pat Bird (AB) won both sets against John Siteman (NS) 12-4 and 15-4, and then repeated the performance against Malcom Taylor (BC) 12-6 and 13-4. Tied with Pat is Glen Taylor (BC) who won over Malcom Taylor (BC) 9-7, 7-8, 2-1 and Gary O’Connell (MB) 9-4, 7-13, 4-1. Also sitting at the top of Pool B is Carter Watson (SK) who won both his games in tie breakers yesterday against Gary Pickering (ON) (8-5, 5-9 and 6-0) and John Siteman (NS) (8-6, 7-9 and 6-0).

Pool C has a two-way tie for the top spot between Jerome Kirby (MB) and Mike McNorton (ON) who both finished 2-0. Kirby first battled it out with Peter Mok of AB (11-9, 10-5).  He then won a narrow victory Leo Dusablon (MB) 6-5 and 9-8.  McNorton defeated Ivo van Bastelaere of BC (8-6, 5-8, 3-0) and Bo Kos of SK (10-5, 8-5) to earn his spot at the top of the leader board.

Brian Kullman is currently sitting alone at the top of the Pool D leaderboard after taking both games to tie breaks against Grady Long (MB) 1-12, 7-4 and 3-1 and Kin On Lau (BC) 4-9, 8-7 and 6-0.

On the Women’s side, there is a three-way tie for the top spot between Jordan Kos (SK), Janet Watson (SK) and Marie Taylor (BC). Kos battled it out against Alberta’s Jan Robinson with an 8-5 and 6-4 finish, and then against Nadine Simmons (MB) 21-4 and 18-4. Janet Watson faced two fellow Saskatchewan teammates on her first day. She defeated Elizabeth Jones 12-3 and 9-2 and Lois Kos 20-2 and 9-7. Marie Taylor (BC) also took both her games yesterday defeating Nadine Simmons (MB) 14-4 and 13-3, and Claire Day (AB) 16-2 and 5-5.
