Day 3 of Round Robin Play is Complete

Winnipeg, Manitoba | September 7, 2017


A picture of Saturday’s finals is starting to form as the 2017 Outdoor Singles Championships heads into its final day of round robin action.


Everett Zwiers (ON) is still leading the Pool A scoreboard with a 5-1 record, after facing Nova Scotia’s Terry O’Neil (7-6, 12-2) and Alberta’s Jon MacDonald (9-8, 5-6 and 3-1). Local member John Bjornson is tied with Michael Leong (BC) for the second place spot, with a 4-2 record.


Pat Bird (AB) is dominating in Pool B with an impressive 6-0 lead after facing Saskatchewan players Cater Watson (16-6, 7-9 and 3-2) and Ernie Meid (9-5, 15-4). Watson and Glen Taylor (BC) are tied for second place, both sitting with a 4-2 record.


Things are all tied up in Pool C, with Jerome Kirby (MB) and David-James Smith (QC) battling it out for the top position, both with a 5-1 record. Kirby faced Smith earlier in the day (14-4, 5-9 and 2-4), then turned his attention to Ontario’s Mike McNorton (14-4, 9-8). After winning over Kirby, Smith played BC’s Ivo Van Bastelaere (14-7, 13-4). Leo Dusablon (MB) and Peter Mok (AB) are currently tied for second with a 4-2 record.


In Pool D, Brian Kullman (MB) is still on top with a 5-1 record after taking on Alberta’s Derek Dillon (10-3, 6-7 and 5-1) and Manitoba’s Kevin Dusablon (3-8, 7-10). Dusablon is tied with Dillon and Kin On Lau (BC) for second place with a 4-2 record.


There is a four way tie for first place in Pool E between Mary Wright (BC), Marie Taylor (BC), Jan Robinson (AB) and Jordan Kos (SK), all sitting with a 4-1 record. Wright faced off against Saskatchewan’s Lois Kos (13-4, 18-1) then BC’s Marie Taylor (5-8, 11-5 and 5-0). Taylor first played against Manitoba’s Betty Van Walleghem (7-7, 6-4) then lost to Wright after three sets. Alberta’s Jan Robinson started the day against Saskatchewan’s Janet Watson (9-6, 19-0) then faced local player Nadine Simmons (11-6, 11-3). Jordan Kos took on BC’s Pauline Wong (10-5, 5-9 and 6-1) then Van Walleghem (8-6, 9-7).


Final round robin games start Friday September 8th at 9:00 am local time.

Over 40 male and female competitors from across the country will compete in this weeklong competition to represent Canada at the 2018 World Champion of Champions in New South Wales, Australia. Competition is being held at Norwood and Dakota Lawn Bowling Clubs in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
