Playoffs Begin at 2018 Canadian Championships

Round robin play has concluded at the 2018 Outdoor Singles Championships in Regina, Saskatchewan. After an intense two days, five rounds have been completed for men’s and women’s singles.


On the men’s side, in Pool A, Jim Duholke (BC) advances to the quarterfinals, while Paul Young (PEI) and Patrick Desranleau (QC) will playoff in a tie-breaker match to determine who proceeds. In B Pool, Earl Luk (BC) will advance, and Darrell Hanoski (SK) and Everett Zwiers (ON) will playoff in a tie-breaker as well.


In C Pool, there was a three way tie for first. Christie Grahame (BC), and Bob Van Walleghem (MB) will playoff with the winner advancing and the loser playing Steve Ogden (NS) in the second tie-breaker match. In Pool D, Maurice Beauchamp (QC) and Roy Riege will advance to the quarter-finals.


On the women’s side, in Pool E, there was another three way tie for first. Cindy Higgins (ON) and Betty Van Walleghem (MB) will playoff with the winner advancing and the loser playing Harriette Pituley (SK) in the second tie-breaker.


In the F Pool, there was a four way tie for first. Sarina Mak (BC) and Jan Robinson (AB) will playoff while Fran Scott (SK) and Cathy Larking (ON) faceoff to determine who the top two athletes are to get out of the group.


Pool G was straightforward with Helen Snare (ON) and Claire Day (AB) advancing to the quarterfinals. In Pool H, Shirley Fitzpatrick-Wong (MB) and Lisa Cheung (BC) will play a tie-breaker match to determine who is the number one seed and who is number two in their pool with both players advancing regardless.


Tie-breakers begin at 8:30am on August 29th at the Regina Lawn Bowling Club, followed by quarterfinals, semifinals, and finals.

The 2018 Canadian Lawn Bowling Championships are an annual outdoor championship that feature both men and women competing across three disciplines: pairs, fours and singles. They will be held at the Regina Lawn Bowling Club in Regina, Saskatchewan from August 22nd to 29th, 2018.
