EDMONTON AB - Jean Roney (SK) and Alfred Wallace (AB) were on top of the medal podium at the 2014 Canadian Singles Championships at the Commonwealth Lawn Bowls Club in Edmonton, Alberta.  Along with the national title, Roney and Wallace have won the right to represent Canada in Queensland, Australia at the 2015 World Bowls Champion of Champions event.  This prestigious international lawn bowls event features national Singles Champions from around the globe competing for the ultimate Singles championship crown.

Playing fellow Saskatchewan native Harriette Pituley, Jean Roney battled back from a 2-7 loss in the first set to take the second set (9-4) and ultimately clinch the match with a tie breaker score of 4-2.  The all Alberta bronze medal game saw Claire Day defeat Christine Adams in straight sets (11-4 / 8-4).

On the men’s side, Alfred Wallace (AB) played Keith Roney (SK) in the gold medal match.  The first set went to Wallace with a decisive 13-3 score.  Looking to join his wife Jean on top of the medal podium, Roney battled back valiantly in the second set.  Ultimately he was unable to overcome Wallace with a second set score of 9-9.  Michael Leong (BC) defeated Derek Dillon (AB) in straight sets (9-6 / 8-2) to win the bronze medal.
