Posted date: August 02, 2013

aaaaaadavefran11387_2139611794_nIt was a fantastic week of Lawn Bowls at the Regina Lawn Bowls Club, that saw players from across the country come to the inaugural Canadian Singles Championship event. Three days of Round Robin and Pool play competition came to an end that saw 16 men make it to the knockout stage.

As for the women they played a full round robin and the top two standing at the end were Katelyn Brierley and local favorite Fran Scott. Both of the players finished at the top of the standings with a 7-3 record earning a bearth in the Thursday final. Shots went back and forth throughout the game and it saw Scott coming out on top 9-4, 11-9 in a straight set win over the young gun Brierley from BC. In the Bronze Medal Game it was Kelly McKerihen (ON) who took home the medal as she beat out played Claire Day (AB) to hit the podium.

In the Men’s final it was Frans brother Alex Scott who was chasing a National Singles Title as he went up against long time player and multiple Canadian Champion David Anderson. Both experienced International players this came down to the wire as they split the sets 11-5 Scott and 12-3 for Anderson. It came down to a tie-break finish that eventually saw Anderson come out with the win 4-1 to claim his second Canadian Singles title.

Congrats to all the players who participated in the tournament and a special Congratulations to Fran and David who will move on to represent Canada in Christchurch New Zealand next year.
